 In this painting workshop we will be focusing on how to simplify and abstract the landscape with the use of brushwork and form to manipulate your compositions and create interesting and unique paintings. This workshop will encourage self-expression through the use of color and brushwork. No experience necessary. 

Students are provided with a generous supply of painting materials and supplies. Students are responsible for supplying their own painting surfaces.

INTUITIVE ABSTRACTION: One-Day Painting Workshop

At The Greenfield Gallery, Greenfield, MA

Saturday, September 15th | 10:30am-2:30 pm

This oil painting workshop is excellent for anyone wanting to explore the exciting results of an intuitive approach to abstract painting. In this 1-Day workshop, we will focus on the use of color, expressive brushwork and various mark-making techniques, while taking artistic risks in order to find one's own unique voice. This workshop provides a supportive environment for painters both beginning and advanced who wish to take creative risks and experience it’s exciting results. One-on-one instruction will be provided to each student, supplemented by a painting demonstration, slide show, and adequate painting time for exploration. Appropriate for both beginning and advanced students. 

$85 for supplies provided ($30 materials fee includes four sheets of 15x11 Arches oil paper, access to oil paints, painting medium, oil brushes, gloves, painting palette, rags and solvent)
$55 for students bringing their own painting materials and supplies

When registering for this workshop, please specify in advance if you will be bringing your own supplies. If bringing your own supplies, a suggested materials list will be provided. 

* We will be taking a short break during this workshop to refuel, so feel free to bring lunch or snack. The Greenfield Gallery will be providing some light refreshments.

OIL PAINTING TECHNIQUES FOR ABSTRACT AND REPRESENTATIONAL PAINTERS

at The River Gallery School of Art

September 25 & 27th | Tuesday & Thursday | 10am-2pm | $165

Using a combination of brushes, palette knives, rags, oil sticks, and a host of materials, in this course we will experiment with both traditional and less conventional oil painting techniques, to achieve a variety of effects. In order to achieve these results, we will also work on a variety of painting supports. This is an excellent course for both representational and abstract painters who are looking to experiment with different techniques in a supportive and non-judgemental environment, to attain exciting results in their painting. This class will be tailored for both beginner and experienced painters.

Students are provided with a generous supply of painting materials and supplies. Students are responsible for supplying their own painting surfaces.

EXPRESSIVE FIGURE PAINTING

At The River Gallery School of Art

October 22 & 23 | Mon & Tues| 1-5pm | $175 

Working from a model, students will explore the expressiveness of line, color, shadow and the science of light. We will investigate how to create luminous skin tones through the use of both of indirect and direct painting methods, using limited warm and cool color palettes. Individual instruction will be augmented by demonstrations, discussions, and slide presentations that feature examples of work from artists past and present, focusing on issues of personal expression, composition, color and technique.

Students are provided with a generous supply of painting materials and supplies. Students are responsible for supplying their own painting surfaces.

 ABSTRACT PAINTING: WORKING IN A SERIES

NOVEMBER  13, 14 +15 | Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 10 am-2pm| $250 

In this 3-day intensive painting workshop, we will explore the process of painting in a series in order to move quickly into developing exciting visual ideas while working intuitively and finding ways to challenge ourselves in beneficial and productive ways. Working in a series provides the opportunity to gain a rhythm and momentum within our painting. As a result, we are able to more effectively develop visual concepts and ideas while achieving multiple images that are harmonious. By working small, students will be able to build a small body of work and will be supported in exploring new imagery while developing their own unique voice within the mode of abstraction.
